CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Christmas lights started with a strand and grew from there. In 2009 we were inspired by the few sequenced lights around Adelaide (see links page for other displays). So from Christmas 2009 we started the hobby, madness or obsession which is sequenced Christmas lights. It needs planning and work so one needs to start early if attempting this for the first time.

Many of our decorations are home made, the mega tree, mini trees, stars on the roof and hand painted nativity. It helps with cost but also gives a great sense of achievement when you see it all come together in December.

I jokingly call it madness and obsession; however you do tend to get some funny looks when looking for materials for Christmas lights in March. One also tends to look at many things as a possible Christmas light – ie rose arbors to make candles, fencing screen to make a stable, lazy susan to wrap mini trees with lights. Recently I bought a couple of candle holders, which will be used in next years’ display as lanterns.

Come November - December and lights go out, neighbours all wave as they drive past wondering what you are up to this time, and its full on with work mode.  BUT when the lights go on, there is nothing quite like it.

With lights on, music playing and balmy weather if you are lucky, you meet extended neighbors as they visit the display, watch children in awe of the lights and dancing to the music in your driveway and notice that noone is too old to reach their inner child and find joy in what you have achieved. Now here is the true reward, seeing that joy on young and old, smiles and that mind-set of talking to complete strangers for a moment rather than ignoring them as we do in everyday life too often. Smiles, laughter, singing and dancing. These are our reward, and what we love so much about sharing our Christmas lights.

So we invite you, bring the family or come by yourself, but have a look and share our joy in the season of Christmas.

Ours lights are on from 1st December to 30 December and can been seen from:-  8.30 pm - 10.30 pm week nights,
and 8.30 pm - 11.30 pm on weekends
